Range Rover Evoque Gearbox

Range Rover Gearbox Issue

You don’t usually hear of poor drivability with Range Rover, however, a recent client visited our Somerset garage when they encountered jerky gear changes in their Evoque.

This is the last thing you want in a high-end vehicle, isn’t it?

Our client had already sought assistance from two separate Range Rover specialists. However, neither garage was able to solve the issues.

Since our Range Rover specialists have decades of experience working on all models of Range Rover, we knew we could help.

Discovering The Issue

During the initial assessment, our expert technicians test-drove the Evoque and confirmed that there  was a great deal of gear change jerkiness. It was far from the smooth drive that you would expect from a Range Rover.

Despite this obvious change in the vehicle’s drive, there were no visible signs as to why the Evoque had these issues, making matters more challenging.

There was clearly a problem with the gear change that needed a deeper inspection.

Time to Dig a Little Deeper

Due to the lack of visual evidence, we performed a diagnostics test to see if any fault codes gave any clues.

Sadly, the test didn’t return any fault codes to help narrow down the search.

In most cases, fault codes serve as a map that our specialists use to identify the main problems with a vehicle. Having a fault code would have been helpful, but our specialists did not let this deter them.

In order to identify the root cause of any issue, at Shires Garage, we use a 15-step diagnostic process. During which, the vehicle is thoroughly checked and assessed. This allows us to address any problems right away.

Other Range Rover garages do not offer this service which could explain why they couldn’t help our client with their gear issues.

An important part of the diagnostic process is reviewing the Range Rover manufacturer’s information. Our independent Range Rover specialists have access to the same technical information as the main dealerships. Using the manufacturer information, our specialist noticed that the Range Rover Evoque’s software was out of date.

Is this why our client had jerky gear changes? It was considered the most likely cause by our experts.

Fixing the Problem

Before further checks or repairs could be performed, the Range Rover Evoque’s gearbox needed a software update.

Thanks to our range Rover specialists’ experience updating software, our client’s Evoque was back in full working order in just one day!

The vehicle’s gearbox and transfer box were updated with the latest software, as outlined in Range Rover’s technical bulletin. The Evoque was then taken out for a test drive.

During the road testing, the Range Rover Evoque operated like new without the jerkiness. The smooth gear-changing experience had returned to the expected high standard.

Having their vehicle back in working order was a huge relief for our client, especially since Shires Garage was able to solve a problem that other garages weren’t able to resolve.

Our experts not only fixed their Evoque, but they did it in less time than the main Range Rover dealerships. And for a fraction of the cost!

What’s not to like about that?

With their Range Rover back to its former glory, our client left our garage with a sense of relief and satisfaction.  They could have saved time, money, and stress had they brought their Range Rover Evoque to us first time round.

Summary

A client of ours brought their Range Rover Evoque to us after experiencing drivability issues that caused harsh gear changes and uncomfortable driving. Two Range Rover garages had already been visited, but the problem could not be resolved.

Fortunately, our client brought their vehicle to Shires Garage.

We identified the root cause of the problem using our 15-step diagnostic process and our decades of Range Rover expertise.

Although no fault codes were detected during the early inspections, our specialists noticed that the gearbox and transfer box needed software updates.

As soon as the gearbox had been updated with the latest software, our specialists took the vehicle for an extensive road test.

As a result, the Evoque no longer had harsh gear changes and was great to drive again.

The client was pleased to receive their vehicle back in full working so soon after dropping it off at our garage.

Not only that, but they had even saved money compared to the main dealership’s quote. It’s no wonder they were smiling when they left our garage.
