Range Rover Steering and Braking
Usually, Range Rover Sports are comfortable and fun to drive, and you expect them to be reliable, right?
What happens if you start experiencing issues? Range Rovers are not immune to problems. Our recent client came to our specialist workshop at Shires Garage with reports of steering and braking issues.
Steering and brakes are paramount for driver and road safety and need to be addressed immediately.
Two days previously, our client visited another workshop to get a new battery and alternator. During that time, a mechanic advised that the ECU had failed – which meant a visit to the main dealership.
Main dealerships are known for high prices and long lead times, which is why our client brought their Range Rover Sport to Shires Garage instead.
What Our Technicians Discovered
Our team of Range Rover experts began inspecting the customer’s vehicle and immediately discovered two warning lights illuminating the dashboard. They were:
- ABS Gearbox Light
- Handbrake Light
Both of these are important for road safety and can have serious consequences if they do not work properly. Our specialist team took the vehicle for a controlled test drive and noticed the heavy steering feel whilst having issues with the brakes.
We took the vehicle into our workshop for a more thorough investigation. With a team of Land Rover experts on hand, our combined decades of experience help us get to the bottom of the issue right away. We also provide extra safety and performance checks to ensure no stone is left unturned when a customer vehicle enters our workshop.
We always provide a quick and efficient service, ensuring you save time and money.
Our technician scanned the Range Rover Sport using our specialist diagnostics scanner to work out if any fault codes were present. What we discovered was nothing short of astonishing.
The client’s Range Rover Sport exhibited a staggering 72 faults (yes, 72!), all mainly coming from a short-to-ground issue.
Further Diagnosis
The diagnostic scan proved that the Range Rover Sport was riddled with electrical issues. Whilst performing live data checks, we used a wiring diagram to narrow down the cause.
Shires Garage has specialist access to the same information as a Land Rover main dealer. We therefore provide the same level of care but at better value.
Once the live test was complete, the secondary voltage drop test helped us to locate areas within the car’s circuitry that had high resistance.
During this test, our team of specialists found an issue with the splice joint in the wiring loom. Detecting this fault meant we could fix all the electrical issues that the Range Rover Sport had.
The splice joint was not well made and probably was a result of a factory manufacturing issue. It could be a common issue or simply a one-off occurrence.
But we knew what to do to fix it and reduce the chances of any unwanted electrical issues in the future.
Fixing the Range Rover Sport
To prevent the Range Rover Sport from experiencing braking and steering issues, we made sure to deal with the problem immediately.
We contacted the client on the phone to explain the splice and electrical issue and suggested the appropriate next steps. Once the client agreed with our repair process, our team began working to fix the fault.
Shires Garage makes sure that the customer is always kept in the loop. We are honest and transparent and only begin work once our customers give us the go-ahead.
Upon the client’s approval, our team of experts began correcting the issue with the splice on the wiring harness. Then, we reset the fault codes using our diagnostics scanner to make sure they did not reappear.
The dashboard lights had cleared, and the steering and braking issues were no longer apparent – neither were the 72 fault codes.
As soon as the Range Rover Sport was fixed, we contacted the client to collect their fully functioning vehicle. Upon receiving the keys, our client was delighted that we fixed their pride and joy at such a rapid rate whilst providing better value than the main dealer.
As your local Land Rover specialist, Shires Garage helps our customers with quick but expert solutions to save time, stress, and money.
